A community of adventure enthusiasts
We like to think of ourselves as an ever growing family of like-minded people, from all walks of life, coming together to share in our love for outdoor adventures and visual storytelling. Anyone is welcomed to join our community!
We started out as a few friends who are outdoor adventure junkies. We'd go on trips together and make videos about it - as a sort of visual diary of our explorations. We found that our friends and families liked our videos, and they were inspired to join us on our next escapades. This gave us motivation to keep making videos and photos that inspire love for travel and the outdoor environment.
Today, we are continuously evolving as a community. New connections are made with each trip, new friends turn into lifelong adventure companions. We share ideas, stories, experiences, skills - all while having fun exploring natural locations all over the world together.
Meet the people who volunteer their skills, ideas and energy to move the cogs and wheeles of The Ark Team.
Keep this list growing! Reach out to us if you'd like to share your expertise and ideas to create more epic adventures and compelling stories together!
Tom is the driving force behind The Ark Team. He comes up with the ideas, connects the dots and gets things moving.
Hailing from Batu Pahat, Johor but making Kudat, Sabah his second home, Tom is a fitness aficionado who is generous to a fault. He is consistently pushing physical limits, including scaling some of the highest peaks in China and South East Asia, but his true love lies in the oceans and its conservation and protection.
He has spearheaded coral restoration projects and took part in numerous ghost net removals and beach cleanups, each time rallying friends to join him in these conservation initiatives.
Krys is an octopus, so to speak. She is the Team's underwater videographer, video editor, graphic designer and website manager.
Graduating with a degree in Graphic Design but decided the corporate rat race is just fine without her, she dived headlong into underwater filming right after completing her studies, spending the next 10 years working in the tourism industry as an underwater videographer and scuba instructor. It's safe to say that she feels more comfortable underwater than on land.
Krys's passion in underwater filming stems from being able to capture the beauty of the wild marine world through the lens, and to share these images with fellow ocean lovers and those who have not had the privilege to encounter the ocean yet.
Just starting to dabble in photography and underwater filming, she is a treasure trove of fresh ideas and perspectives. Her positivity and unfailingly bubbly nature makes her the Energizer Bunny of the Team, and everything is extra fun with Gabi around.
How does our Energizer Bunny recharge? By soaking up the great outdoors (so you can imagine her energy whenever we're on a trip). Gabi's great love is being out in the sea, because it absorbs all her negative energies and tiredness away, as if the sea is collecting the trash from her. So she gives back by collecting trash away from the sea whenever she can.
Gabi is an Early Intervention teacher for children with special needs. Recognizing the rejuvenation and healing that being outdoors can bring, she brings "her kiddos" closer to Mother Nature by organizing excursions to beaches and parks.
You can say Tim is the big brother of the family, dishing out sound advice and astute observations. Ultra reliable and generous with his knowledge, he is our go-to guy for anything related to photography. He's that guy who wakes up in the wee hours of the morning to capture the sunrise when everyone else is still sleeping.
Also a Johorean with his roots now firmly planted in Sabah (we're seeing a pattern here, seems like everyone who sets foot in Sabah ends up staying!), Tim is a sales and marketing exec who loves being outdoors in the natural environment, into which he brings his passion for photography. Hiking, camping and scuba diving are his favorite ways to recharge and connect with nature.
Tim is into architectural and portraiture photography, and aims to capture fleeting, beautiful moments in his photographs.
Eric always calls himself a retired dive instructor, and even with almost 20 years of dive experience, his enthusiasm in diving and getting involved in hospitality and tourism development has never waned.
Because of his expertise in project planning and dealings in the corporate and commercial industry, Eric often offers his thoughts, advice and consultation to the Team on many of our events, programs and trips. Preferring to work behind-the-scenes, Eric is also our go-to guy when it comes to the nitty-gritty aspects of event organizing.
Eric is passionate about nature and conservation, and Tom credits Eric as his mentor who introduced him to the world of ocean conservation.
